I bought my self the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson over the holidays and I have one question in regards to prices quoted for firearms. Smith & Wesson 38 S&W Special CTG In 2006 the Standard catalog of S&W gave the following values: ANIB $1500, Excellent condition $850, very Good $550, Good $385, Fair $250, Poor $125. You do indeed have a prize there and congratulations! I read in the standard catalog of Smith and Wesson that S&W actually made aluminum framed N-frames BEFORE WWII. If yours does not have the model stamped on the crane area it was made before 1957. The 9mm M&P Shield offers an 8+1 or 7+1 magazine capacity, while the .40 S&W M&P Shield is standard with either a 7+1 or 6+1 magazine capacity. Smith & Wesson outfitted some of the biggest and boldest gunfighters, both actual and fictional, including Wild Bill Hickock, Buffalo Bill and Dirty Harry, whose exploits are still legendary. The M&P is listed as 1948-1951 C1-C223998 so with that serial # your M&P is probably right around 1950 but unless there's a better source than "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" I can't tell you any closer. The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson List C1 through C999999 as being made from 1948 until 1967.
